Mobile traffic light unit, Melchtal/OW (2005)

After the devastating storm in August 2005 a landslide destroyed the access road to Melchtal. Within shortest time a 4 km long emergancy road was equipped with an IMO radio controlled traffic light unit in order to ensure the access to Melchtal again.

A bypass for vehicles was possible, however the vehicles could not cross.
The problem was solved by using a specail traffic light unit. Special because on one hand the unit had to control very long green or red periods and on the other hand because the units were positioned in a distance of approx 3.5 kilometer. Eventhough special environmental situations, like forest and rocks, the units had to communicate via radio control. Just a weekend was necessary to plan and to install this special solution.

The two radio controlled traffic light units were installed with a distance of approximately 3,5 km.

During the reconstruction of the bridge a special radio controlled unit regulated the traffic flow to Melchtal.
